Get Your DOT Medical Card and Get Back on the Road!

Whether you’re getting your DOT physical for the first time or just getting it renewed, we understand you want this process to go quickly and smoothly. We’re here to do just that and get you back on the road. Here’s what you need to know about DOT physicals, what to expect during your exam, and more.

What Are DOT Physicals?

If you operate a commercial motor vehicle, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, which can only be administered by an FMCSA-certified medical provider. A DOT physical exam is valid for two years, and then you’ll need to get another exam. These exams help determine if a commercial driver is in good health, so they can safely operate vehicles.

Here's What to Expect During Your Exam

We know DOT physicals can be stressful if you are unprepared, so we have provided information to help you get ready and have peace of mind. Here is what to expect during your exam and how to prepare.

During your DOT physical exam, our certified medical examiner, Jeff Smith, PA-C, will check your:

  • General physical appearance
  • Weight, height, and gait
  • Ears and hearing
  • Heart health and vascular
  • Blood pressure
  • Mouth and throat
  • Chest and lungs
  • Eyes and vision
  • Genital and urinary systems
  • Neurological impairment and abilities
