Daniel Baker
Daniel is an Army veteran who served as a medic in Afghanistan. After being medically retired, he served the State of Washington at the youth detention center in Naselle. When the youth detention center closed, Daniel came on board with Willapa Behavioral Health and Wellness to serve as a family peer partner.
Before his military service, Daniel graduated with honors from the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in Social Sciences and concentrations in psychology, anthropology and legal studies. While he was in the military, he received a Master’s of Science of Criminal Justice from what is now Purdue University online.
Daniel currently continues to be of service by volunteering and being involved in our community through his local church, Ocean Beach Christian Fellowship.
He enjoys working with all ages and people because he feels that he can have a positive impact no matter their demographic. He describes himself as being stern and disciplined when needed, and fun and goofy if the time is right. The ability to blend allows him to connect with adults and children alike.
Daniel hopes that his life choices speak to the value he gives to living a life of service. He feels that the Lord has allowed him to survive his experiences in order to help teach others, and when an opportunity arose to join the WISe team, he felt this was a worthy opportunity to serve.
As a family partner, he likes to use a little DBT, because the skills in this model have usually not been taught to the parents or youth he serves, and its principles are extremely useful tools.
