Understanding Washington Domestic Violence Treatment Requirements

The state of Washington rates domestic violence cases based on a variety of factors, considering many things. With the help of a counselor, a unique treatment plan is developed for each individual on a case-by-case basis. Clients are assigned one of the following treatment levels:

  • Level One: 6-month treatment minimum
  • Level Two: 9-month treatment minimum
  • Level Three: 12-month treatment minimum
  • Level Four: 18-month treatment minimum

After your initial assessment with a Long Beach counselor and an in-depth look at your individual case, if it is appropriate, you will be recommended for a level of care that correlates with the severity of the findings. DV treatment You will work with the counselor to create a treatment plan and then begin group treatment. All participants must attend consecutive, face to face and in-person weekly group treatment sessions. On occasion an exception for virtual attendance may be made.

DV Assessment Process

There are multiple parts to completing a DV assessment. The interview portion of the assessment typically lasts two hours and covers many questions about your past and present, your criminal history, your beliefs, and other facts about yourself and relationships. You will be required to bring a case history (sometimes called a criminal history) report along with an incident report for any assault and DV charges on your record. You will also sign releases of information for the counselor to collect collateral information to assist with the assessment findings. Once the assessment is complete, if necessary, a level of care will be recommended, and each level is tied to a time requirement for treatment, per the state of Washington.
